Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve

Surely, during a trip to Quintana Roo, you may have heard of this protected area, declared a World Heritage Site in 1987.

But, what makes it so special? Its incredible landscapes, made up of a beautiful tropical forest, wide white sand beaches, mangroves, small bays and the second largest barrier reef of its kind.

Palenque

Currently, a total of 2.5 km2 of this impressive archaeological zone have been explored; however, it is believed that this could be only 2% of its real extension and that the rest is still hidden in the jungle.

Chichén Itzá

Named a World Heritage Site in 1988, it is currently one of the most popular archaeological sites in the Yucatan peninsula and the world. Chichén Itzá means “mouth of the well of the Itza”, and refers to the Sacred Cenote found within this ancient Mayan city.

Among its buildings, the Kukulkán temple stands out, currently recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, due to the artistic and scientific wealth that it is made up of.

Historic city of Guanajuato

Protagonist of the beginning of Mexican independence, the city of Guanajuato is characterized by its welcoming colonial aspect, whose buildings show the artistic wealth of Mexican baroque and neoclassical styles.

Its mines, such as "La boca del infierno", with more than 600 meters depth, show the history of the first mining center of silver extraction in the world. Without a doubt, this cultural asset registered in 1988, is a journey back in time, which will leave you wanting to return.

Pre-Hispanic city of El Tajín

It is believed to have been the capital of the Totonaca Empire and is currently the most important pre-Hispanic city in the coastal area of Veracruz. The pyramid of the niches is considered a masterpiece, thanks to the reliefs that adorn its columns, as well as the astronomical and artistic value of its structure.

It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1992 and since 2002, every year, the Tajín Summit is held, cultural festival that seeks to promote the architectural and cultural wealth of this ancient city.

El Vizcaíno Whale Sanctuary

It is a protected natural area, where its great variety of marine species, is the reason why UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1993. The coastal lagoons of Ojo de Liebre and San Ignacio have the ideal conditions for the reproduction of species such as the gray whale, sea calves, sea lions, sea elephants and blue whales.

Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve

Imagine over 56,000 hectares of forested mountains, with millions of monarch butterflies flying around.

This reserve is located in the state of Michoacán and part of the State of Mexico; It was registered as a natural asset in 2008.

Every year, it receives these butterflies that migrate to start their reproductive stage, since here they have the necessary conditions to develop and mate. The monarch butterfly, in addition to being a species of great beauty, is characterized by its resistance and longevity, since it lives up to 9 months.
